My name is Amy Griffin and I was born and raised in the United States, and more specifically in Southern California. Because my husband is in the military, we have moved around a lot and I have enjoyed seeing all kinds of new places, including Japan.

I am excited to begin teaching and would love the opportunity to meet with you. My theory is that learning should be fun and exciting. Upon our initial meeting, I will determine your level of expertise and I will be anxious to understand your goals. I will then develop a lesson plan tailored specifically to you and your needs. Everyone learns in different ways, and I want to find what will be most effective for you!

I obtained my bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine, and after several years of working in various industries I went on to earn a degree in law from Chapman University, School of Law.

Following graduation from law school, I moved with my husband to Virginia. After passing the state bar exam, I began working as an Attorney.

However, during the months that I awaited my bar results, and during much of the time that I worked before attending law school, I taught as a substitute teacher. I enjoy children of all ages and taught all different subjects. Moreover, as a college student I spent most of my free time working as a private tutor for students. It gives me great joy to help individuals master new concepts.

My love for language began early, probably because I grew up in a very diverse culture. During my third year of college, I moved to Mexico to become a foreign exchange student for several months. As a foreign exchange student, I lived with a Mexican family and went to the local University where I took a full load of classes all taught in Spanish. The experience helped me master the Spanish language, but also taught me a lot about the process a person goes through in learning a new language. I know this experience has made me a more patient and understanding instructor.
